From 21 October to 3 November, in the Sala d’Arme of Palazzo Vecchio, an immersive exhibition to celebrate the relationship between Florence and the sanctuary of La Verna marking the eighth centenary of the stigmata of St. Francis

From 21 October to 3 November 2024, the Sala d’Arme of Palazzo Vecchio will host the exhibition “The Final Seal: the tunic of St. Francis and an immersive journey from La Verna to the city of Florence”. The exhibition, sponsored by the Municipality of Florence and organised by MUS.E in collaboration with the Franciscan Committee for the Eighth Centenary of the Stigmata of St. Francis, celebrates the profound historical and spiritual bond between the Franciscan sanctuary of La Verna and the city of Florence, through an immersive journey that combines history, art and religion.

The exhibition features the projection of an immersive video in the Sala D’Arme that traces the key events of the history of the sanctuary and the relationship between Florence and La Verna, the place where St. Francis received the stigmata in September 1224. The focal point of the exhibition will be the presentation of the much-prized “Tunic of St. Francis” that will return to the city after being kept there for over five hundred years. In addition to the main exhibition, there will also be a series of conferences and round tables that explore historical, artistic and religious topics to find out more about the bond between the Saint, the city of Florence and the monastery of Mount La Verna.
