Firenze Family tour
A Kit, a smartphone app and a tablet to discover the beauties of the historical centre of Florence. “Family Tour” offers a new way to visit the city for families with children.
The project has been carried out by the municipality of Florence in collaboration with the Association Mus.e and the Istituto degli Innocenti.
On June 6th and 7th will be presented Family Tour, a project for families with children developed and realized by the municipality of Florence, the Association Mus.e and the Istituto degli Innocenti. The idea is to offer to families, living in Florence or visiting the city, the possibility to discover the “open museum” of Florence giving to children a better understanding of the historical centre and its beautiful architecture and monuments, listed as World Heritage Site.
Backed by their experience with “Bottega dei Ragazzi” and their involvement to enhance the cultural heritage of the city, addressing their mission especially to children, Association MUS.E and the Istituto degli Innocenti came up with the idea of a new means to talk about culture with kids.
Family Tour gathers different tools to better understand the treasures of the city. The first tool – the Kit – is the “explorer backpack” to get to know the historical centre in 10 steps, inviting families to observe, imagine and understand what they discovered. The second tool is the App, digital and interactive itineraries focusing on a subject, a period or a specific character with the objective to offer an alternative to the well-known touristic tours.
The Kit offers an itinerary in several steps: a map and ten cards will allow children to learn about the city in an entertaining way, enjoying and looking at the city with a brand-new look, exploring and “reinventing” the beauties of Florence. The App will entertain families in the same way and is addressed to those that are used to move around using a smartphone or a tablet.
Version for children aged between 6/9 and between 10/13 years old are available in Italian and English (the French and Spanish will be soon available)
Kits can be hired for free at the admission desk of Palazzo Vecchio and at the Istituto degi Innocenti, allowing families to visit the historical centre of Florence on their own and at their own pace. The Kit has to back within three hours from the rental. The App can be downloaded from the digital stores.
The project is sponsored by exceptional partners such as the Tuscany Region but also by F.I.L.A – leader in the fields of tools for children’s artistic activities especially with the GIOTTO brand for colour, symbol of creativity – by the app realized by D’Uva Workshop – well-known for the development of digital tools dedicated to cultural assets. Family Tours is part of the project “Musei con vista” which gathers Musei di Fiesole, Fondazione Primo Conti and Musei degli Innocenti.
Kit Palazzo Vecchio – available for free in Italian and in English at the admission desk of the Museum of Palazzo Vecchio. Every day, from 9am to 9pm (April 1st/ September 30th), from 9am to 4pm (October 1st/ March 31st).
Kit Istituto Innocenti – available for free in Italian and in English at the admission desk of the Istituto degli Innocenti. From Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 4.30pm.
